The Challenge

Wire Repair

Pritam is one of the biggest names in eastern India when it comes to electrical fittings like switchgear, wires, LED lighting, etc. They are mostly known for their switches, both budget switches and designer modular switches.

The company has been a pioneer in designing and manufacturing electrical fittings for a long time. However, recently they have been looking to expand into broader markets and looking for high-quality visuals and animations to create a greater market presence. They are also constantly innovating and bringing new designs, new design ranges, and new products to the table.

There were a few notable challenges here. The first one was visually communicating the key design and utility features of their products in an engaging manner for the modern market. With rapid urban development and growth in real estate, the demand for sleek, modern electrical fittings is increasing, and it is crucial to showcase the products at their absolute best.

Another major challenge here was to create visuals that could be used for multiple purposes with minimal editing and adjustment. Most of the products needed to be visualized in a way that would enable the images to be used in multiple places from street billboards, banners and brochures, to online social media posts.

Our Approach

Our Approach

Mission Debrief and First Steps

We started out examining their primary products in-depth, and having detailed discussions with their management and design team to understand key marketing objectives for the products.

Pritam's management and design team first wanted to showcase their premium range of modular switches and switchplates with high visual fidelity. They needed high-quality and clean still images to better represent their premium product range, which could then be used in marketing collateral like billboards and brochures. The requirement for a short product video was also identified.

After thorough discussions and meetings with the management and design team, we decided on a particular product - The "Norah" range of premium designer modular switches, to create the first set of still images and a short product video. Designer modular switches are mostly used in premium real estate projects, like modern houses and office spaces. The images and videos thus needed to appeal to an upmarket and modern audience. Another goal here was to showcase the different colors and textures of the switches and switch plates and enable the audience to experience each texture as a unique flavor.

A major goal was to establish the creative style and visual language to be used for their other product ranges to produce faster renders and a cohesive visual presence across all their marketing collateral.

How was 3D Visualization used?

1 Brainstorming

As every creative process goes, brainstorming was the first essential part of the concept stage. The main idea was to showcase the product(s) and its variety of textures with a premium look-and-feel.

The 3D CAD files for the products, and the actual physical samples were provided by the client. They also engaged with us to formulate and thoroughly discuss the concepts and ideas for the deliverables. The videos required a greater amount of brainstorming. Our creative team worked further on the narrative ideas and shot division, and designed the shots and camera movements dynamically, to bring out the best of the product(s). For the still images, we discussed references for the camera angles and positioning, depending on the usage of the render(s). The concepts were concieved keeping in mind that the product videos and images could grab as well as retain the audience’s attention.

2 The Creative Pipeline and Execution

We established the creative pipeline so that we could quickly and effectively produce 3D Animated Product Videos and 3D Image Renders for Pritam Electricals whenever required.

3D Modelling

Our 3D Modelling team would take the 3D CAD files provided by Pritam and make certain creative enhancements so that they can be used for animation and rendering.

Animation

Texturing

The modified and ready product models were then provided to our 3D Lookdev team for creation of textures and implementation of Pritam’s brand elements and logo on the product as required. We took references from the physical product sample which helped us replicate the materials and colours with great precision.

The product would then be animated as per the script and the shot divisions, with little improvised tweaks as needed to enhance the look and feel even more. Certain integral parts of the product were specifically highlighted according to the product’s functionality and the marketing purpose of the video (i.e., showcasing features and product design, and utility features).

Our team would then create preview outputs of the animation which would be shared with the client for feedback.

Rigging

The animation team would then rig the textured model and assign virtual controllers in a way that the product can be properly and effectively animated.

Lookdev

After modelling, texturing and approval of the animation, our Lookdev team would plan the lighting setup for the scenes and shots, keeping in mind the purpose of the video, and the features to be highlighted.

The lookdev was customised to associate a feeling of premiumness with the product’s look-and-feel, enabling it to stand out and easily grab the viewers’ attention.

Editing

The renders (both stills and animation) were finally composited with additional render passes and sometimes 2D graphic elements to introduce product variants and to highlight certain product features.

The colours were tweaked to match the company’s brand theme, and music was added to make the experience more immersive. The final output was now achieved.

Delivery of Creatives

The preview animation would first be shared with the client. After finalizing the animation, the preview stills from the animation would be sent to the client for approval via email.

Once everything was approved and the client was fully satisfied, the final creatives (images or video files) were delivered.

Collaboration with the Client

Pritam’s design team was very co-operative and had allowed us a great amount of creative freedom. But we had to ensure that the delivery was as effective and timely. To make best use of our time, we would cycle through quick feedback loops with the design team. This was the key to ensuring faster deliveries without discrepancies.

We would work closely with Pritam’s design team to understand the technical aspects of the products, especially when it came to creating renders for packaging and brochures.

Creatives Delivered

3D Product Showcase Animation Videos

The 3D Product Showcase Animation provides a brief overview of the product and highlights key features.

The dynamic nature of the animation and motion graphics helps capture consumer interest quickly and communicates the quality and utility of the product.

USE CASES 🠇

  1. Product Teaser or Launch Videos: Some product animation videos, especially the shorter ones, are used as teaser videos on Pritam's YouTube channel and other social media handles to tease an upcoming product range which boosts consumer interest preemptively.

Videos are also used to launch and establish a product or a brand both online, on social media, and offline, screening in various expos, events, and distributor meetings.

  2. Reels and Short Videos: Some animations are created in portrait orientation and with very short duration like 10 to 15 sec, to be used regularly as reels on social media platforms like Instagram. These videos can be easily viewed on mobile devices and help keep the brand in spotlight.

  3. CGI/Mixed Reality Videos: The mixed reality videos, which are currently in trend across social media, feature the product(s) in a real-life setting with exaggerated proportions and placement, helping to draw attention and boost relatability.

3D Still Renders

The 3D Still Renders are single rendered images of the product.

3D Still Renders show the products in a clean, minimalist and visually appealing manner to highlight the product's aesthetics and to build brand awareness. The more visually appealing the product images are, the easier it is to create brand differentiation.

The 3D still renders have various uses for Pritam. The most significant uses are as follows.

USE CASES 🠇

1. Catalogue

The 3D still renders find most of their usage in Pritam's product catalogues and brochures. Pritam has a catalogue for each of its major product brands like Norah and TRY for switchboards and switchgear, LED lighting range, and others. Some of the catalogues were completely designed by us, and in other cases, we provided Pritam with the still renders to be used in the respective catalogues.

The 3D still renders ensure a clean, modern and minimal appearance of the catalogue, and most importantly, allow for seamless integration with the whole page design which allows for the designers to create aesthetically pleasing pages which enhance the presence of the products.

2. Banners and Billboards (OOH Advertising)

The 3D still renders also find their use in outdoor advertising (OOH) like in case of banners for retailers, and billboards at high-traffic urban locations. The renders ensure a clean look and are tweaked to provide maximum visibility from a distance, which draws attention to the product.

3. Packaging:

The 3D still renders are also utilized in Pritam's product packaging. The renders on the product boxes, especially for a product range with multiple colour and texture variations, help the customer clearly understand the aesthetic variations of the product. The renders also keep the packaging design clean and crisp.

Apart from these 3 prominent uses, the still renders are also used individually and as clusters on various other designs like diaries, leaflets, social media posts, etc. to build brand awareness and showcase the product designs.

"Their work was not only up to our standards and expectations, but crossed them."
